Corn Is Coming!

It's been two months since I planted corn seeds.  Now, the corn stalks have tassels at the top and are about 10' high!

Also, the cobs are beginning to form with beautiful pink silks at the ends.

The beans that are growing among the corn stalks are also flourishing.  Our Oasis Garden is living proof that beans and corn truly are good companion plants.

We're continuing to harvest lots of zucchini, tomatoes and peppers.  Although the cucumber plant has nearly reached the top of the trellis, the cucumbers are still very small--we haven't yet picked the first one.  Nor have we had any eggplant.  But, there are plenty of purple flowers, so I know they'll be ready soon.  While I was excited to see the purple flowers that are forming, I was not so pleased to find some little green bugs on the leaves of the eggplant.

I think they're aphids, so I sprayed them with Dr. Earth Organic Home & Garden Insect Spray.   Once again, that stuff worked its magic and the bugs are all gone now.  After treating the aphids, I realized the garden was way overdue for some fertilizer.  I sprinkled Gro-Power Flower-n-Bloom near the base of all the plants that flower.  It's good to fertilize the garden about every three weeks.  Hopefully, I'll be more prompt next time!

It's hard to eat everything we're harvesting at this point.  But, we're doing our best to keep up.  Here are my favorite recipes from this past week: Stuffed Bell Peppers (www.allrecipes.com); Broiled Zucchini Boats with Parmesan Crust (www.farmfreshtoyou.com); and Easy Olive Oil, Tomato, and Basil Pasta (www.allrecipes.com).  Stay tuned for some cucumber dishes next week.  We may be cooking eggplant by then too!
